Status Terms Of Service

Welcome to Status.

Status is an independent, student-run platform designed to allow Villanova students to share profile information, use matching features, and create social or activity requests within a closed campus community.

By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms of Service.

1. Independent Platform

Status is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Villanova University. Use of the Villanova name is solely to describe eligibility requirements.

2. Eligibility

To use this service, you must:

Be 18 years of age or older
Be a current Villanova University student
Use a valid @villanova.edu email address
Provide accurate information

We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that do not meet these requirements.

3. User Conduct

You agree not to:

Harass, threaten, stalk, or intimidate other users
Post false or misleading information
Impersonate another person
Use gender-restricted or public activity requests to target, exploit, or deceive other users
Post unlawful, sexually explicit, threatening, abusive, or clearly unsafe activity content
Use the platform to collect data for commercial or research purposes
Attempt to access other users' accounts
Use the service for unlawful purposes

We may remove content or accounts that violate these rules at our sole discretion.

4. Profile Information

Your profile may be visible to authenticated users of the platform.

You are responsible for the information you choose to share. Do not post sensitive, confidential, or private information.

An "approachability" setting does not imply consent to contact, romantic interest, or any obligation to engage. All interactions must be respectful and voluntary.

Gender-based audience filters are a product setting only. They do not create any guarantee about another user's identity, intentions, or conduct.

5. Activities, Public Requests, and Safety

Status does not control user behavior and does not verify the accuracy of profile information.

You interact with other users at your own risk.

Activity requests may be private or public. Public requests may be shown anonymously to other eligible users and may remain visible until they are accepted, filled, cancelled, expire, or are removed by moderation.

You may choose to share a direct link to a public activity request. Shared request links may be viewable outside authenticated sessions. You are responsible for how and where you share these links.

Requests shared by direct link are still subject to moderation and may be limited, removed, or made unavailable at any time for safety, policy, or operational reasons.

We do not guarantee that a request will be matched, filled, accepted, or remain visible for any specific amount of time.

Group requests may allow multiple participants. You are responsible for deciding whether to join, leave, repost, or repeat a request, and for your conduct during any resulting interaction.

If you choose to add contact details such as Instagram or Snapchat, you agree that those details may be shown to matched participants in accepted activity groups to help users coordinate.

Group organizers may remove participants from their own public group requests. If removed, you may lose access to that group's contact details and participation.

Activities recommendations may be personalized using your questionnaire responses and in-product activity history. Recommendation rankings are estimates only, may be incomplete or inaccurate, and do not guarantee compatibility, participation, or outcomes.

In-app notifications are provided for convenience only. We do not guarantee delivery timing, display order, or that any notification will be seen before a request changes status.

If you experience harassment or inappropriate behavior, you should:

Report the user
Block the user
Contact appropriate campus resources if necessary

In emergencies, contact 911 or Villanova Public Safety.

We may review, remove, limit, or delete public activity requests, participant access, or accounts when we believe it is necessary to enforce these Terms, respond to abuse reports, or protect users.

6. No Guarantee

We do not guarantee:

The accuracy of user information
That you will receive responses
That matches or compatibility are accurate
That public requests will be accepted, filled, or shown to every user
That the service will be uninterrupted or error-free

7. Termination

We may suspend or permanently remove accounts at our sole discretion for violations of these Terms or for creating safety risks.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Status and its operator are not liable for:

User conduct
Interactions between users
Emotional, physical, or reputational harm
Loss of data
Technical failures

Use of the service is at your own risk.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of Status from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from your misuse of the platform or violation of these Terms.

10. Intellectual Property and License

The Status service, including its design, software, branding, and content provided by the operator, is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the service for personal, non-commercial use.

You retain ownership of the content you submit. You grant us a limited license to host, store, process, display, and moderate that content as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service and to enforce these Terms.

11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

You and Status agree to first attempt to resolve disputes informally by contacting support@joinstatus.app.

If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it must be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
